Here is wasting lives for a symbolic gesture. When he gives the moon lords the rising factions in their space he is doing it for the greater good and making a cold calculation. He basically wastes red lives by using brute force tactics to 'drown the lions in sheep blood'. The Phobos assault is awesome but one of the colder things Darrow does without really being given credit as such. But I still feel like it was a bit of a cheap writing trick.

The Sevro moment at the end is awesome and I love watching other people experience it on here. His physical abilities and confidence are regrown really well, but I can't imagine he wouldn't have serious psychological issues after that. I would think he would shit himself every time the lights went out for a couple decades. That being said, I'm not sure I buy the human mind coming back from that so quickly. How the Jackal forces him to be reborn as a Red is so hideously wicked. I thought it was incredibly well written and a brutually fantastic addition to the story. I think the above is a side effect of his tortue, but yes let's talk about his torture. How at arms length Darrow holds Mustang, I get her side of things, but I don't get his. That being said I can get by him being an exception easier than I can apply the same amount of disbelief to millions of Obsidian. He tells a big brute he barely knows anything about a huge secret that is the only hope for billions of lives. I thought when Darrow talked to Ragnar in the freezer in Golden Son it was one of the least believable things in the series. 50 years fighting in pits as a violent brute. I was always actually pretty bothered by how quickly Ragnar became an intelligent scholar when he's spent aprx. It is just very unrealistic and it is a different kind of unrealistic then the other stuff in the books.

How quickly the Obsidian are assimilated and providing massive contributions. I try not to and just suspend my disbelief and enjoy it, but it's 3rd or 4th in my rankings for sure. Especially when you say you have the nitpicks about it. I'm interested to know what helps push MS over GS.
